Win lose night for Lancers basketball

It was a 1-1 night for Lancers basketball.

Both the men and the women played the Durham Lords tonight, but the women came out on top. With a final score 73-55, Coach Chris Eligh called it a dry win.

“But it’s nice to score 73 points on a dry win.â€

Loyalist Lancer Samantha Goff goes for the basket during the ladies game against Durham Friday night. The ladies won 73-55

Eligh says he’s looking for a little more energy from his bench, and from the fans who come out to watch games.

Samantha Goff, centre for the Lancers, continued to prove that not only can she defend, but put forth an impressive offensive effort as well. Rookie Jenni Thompson also had a good night, with two and three pointers, as well as numerous penalty shots.

And while the will to win was definitely there, the men couldn’t keep up to the Lords, except for in fouls. As usual, the men put forth a strong effort for the first half to three quarters of the game, but by the fourth quarter the fouls went up, and points down. Frustration with the referees mounted, until head coach Rich Whitfield was heard in an untimely silent gym berating one of the referees.

“I thought you were a better official than this.â€

A presumed technical foul followed that statement, and the downhill roll continued. While they were within 10-15 points of the Lords, the gap increased until the buzzer, with a final score of 91-71.

Both teams next game is in Algonquin Saturday January 28.
